The Pledge for a Sustainable Commuity
As part of SHAPE, The City of Lougheed is proud to have taken the Pledge for a Sustainable Community. We are committed to and taking steps towards reducing our environmental footprint.
The management and staff of The City of Lougheed strive to create a safe, healthy and environmentally responsible shopping experience for our residents and guests. And our achievement of Environmental Certification, under the BOMA BEST program, is testimony to our commitment to sustainability.
We’ve taken steps to decrease The City of Lougheed’s environmental footprint by focusing on: Energy & Water Conservation, Waste Reduction & Recycling, Transportation Alternatives, and Sustainable Purchasing.
It is our goal to reduce our energy consumption by 10% over the next 5 years and 15% over the next 10 years. We’ve already taken steps towards this goal by changing to more efficient lighting options and upgrading many of our building systems to more efficient alternatives.
The City of Lougheed also has an aggressive waste diversion target of 50% and a water reduction target of 5% over the next 5 years and 10% over the next 10 years. In an effort to reach these goals, we’ve instituted strict construction waste policies and we’ve continued to investigate and implement new recycling opportunities for the shopping centre.
